Description

“Too many!” cried Tarran, as she let blast the flintlock —

Yes, the villains are many, and time is short for the six young members of King James’ Seventh Company. Dark and deadly forces swirl within Westminster Abbey, where eminent scholars are assembled to produce the world’s greatest book: The King James Bible. To save Six Companies of scholars, this fellowship of teenagers must cross a most dangerous landscape.

Within these pages, readers will find revenge and heartbreak, anguish and love, secret identities, brave deeds in the face of overwhelming odds — and a new perspective on one of history’s great tales.

Excerpts

My eyes were growing dim. My life ebbed —

I heard one of the papists chuckle; it was a cynical, lethal, confident sound, the kind a jackal might make when the rabbit has finally been trapped on all sides, and above, and below.

With all my remaining strength, I moved to step in front of Betje — I stumbled badly —

She caught me with one arm.

You’re with me now,” she said in my ear.

Sensing victory, the ranks of the abaddon broke. As one, they rushed, screaming like banshees in the pelting rain, jagged-toothed figures from a nightmare. We had no chance against such a mob —

She held me close as the end came. I felt her body brace —

I heard Daffyd’s voice ring out —

A sudden wave of rushing water fell on the terrace like a dam bursting, making an immense sound. A wall of water swept everything before it.

I saw the last press piece swing overhead and heard it fall into the sluice —

I felt hands grabbing us and pulling us backward —

Thus passeth the glory of the world,” she said.

Reviews

“It’s a clever premise, to have teenaged heroes coming of age and changing history, aided by the mysterious Society of Navigators. It seems you could spin out an almost endless cycle of similarly colorful scenarios. While the writing may be challenging for some young adults, it is not any more so than J.K. Rowling.”
— Gina Glenn, Bookseller-Buyer / Malaprop Bookstore
